Beschreibung:
The artist Kaari Upson was always going places she didn't belong—whether investigating the McMansion of her playboy neighbor "Larry" like a rogue detective without a warrant or rescuing soiled mattresses from the streets of Los Angeles. For this event, the award-winning art critic Jori Finkel (The New York Times and The Art Newspaper) will talk about Upson, who she knew for 15 years, as a trespasser of properties and transgressor of social norms. Cultural journalist Jori Finkel lives in Los Angeles and was awarded the Rabkin Prize in 2023. She writes regularly for The New York Times and is the West Coast editor of The Art Newspaper, where she reports on artists and the art world with a particular focus on gender issues. She has also written extensively about the work of Kaari Upson. Previously, she was senior editor of Art+Auction magazine in New York. She developed and co-produced the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary Artist and Mother in 2018, in which she sought to refute prejudices against artwork created by parents and establish an art-historical lineage for female artists and mothers. She is also the author of the critically acclaimed book 2It Speaks to Me: Art that Inspires Artists“, which New York Magazine called “an argument for why art museums matter.”
